Welcome and learn about
Donna Towne, CNM
Donna Towne was a labor and delivery nurse and childbirth educator on Cape Cod for fifteen years before attending Baystate School of Midwifery, associated with the Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed part of her training with the certified nurse-midwives of Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston and is certified by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. She joined Milford Obstetrics and Gynecology in August of 1999 and attends requested midwifery deliveries at Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital in Milford, Massachusetts. Donna firmly believes that personal choice and education can lead a woman to trust herself and her body during the natural process of pregnancy and birth. She views birth as a family-centered event.
"Pregnancy is a wonderful time for a woman to learn more about herself and her inner strength. All women should be treated with respect and gentleness."
"There is no right or wrong way to have a baby. The safety of mother and babe is the number one priority, but that allows for great variation and choice in the process. Supported labor tools include, but are not limited to, encouragement and emotional support, water relaxation, LaMaze and Bradley methods, hypnobirthing, pain-relieving medication use, and epidural anesthesia. The ultimate goal, the birth of a healthy child, can require the use of many tools and since each labor is unique, we support any and all of these choices. We are proud of our low Primary (first time) Cesarean Birth rate and our VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) attempt and success rates which demonstrate our faith in the natural birthing process to the extent possible without compromise to the health and the safety of mother or baby."
"Milford OB/GYN provides an environment that allows a woman to deliver her baby, not 'to be delivered'. We believe the best maternity care is provided with a professional team approach -midwife and doctor- each delivering individualized care. We are active participants and coaches in each labor and delivery. We attend each of our patients in labor."
